Portland’s Scott Fauble is an All-American for the third straight year and the Pilots made history on Saturday with a third-place finish at the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships, the best finish in Portland program history. In the women’s race, senior Tansey Lystad (pictured) finished in 15th place to earn All-America honors. It is the highest individual finish in Portland women’s cross country history.
The teams will be honored at the UP vs. Oregon State basketball game on Saturday, December 6, at 7 p.m., in the Chiles Center.
Fauble was solid on the 10k course as he remained near the head of the lead pack for the majority of the race. He cruised to the finish in a time of 30:34.4, good for 12th overall. The redshirt senior was 13th at the NCAA Championships as a junior a year ago.
Not far behind Fauble was teammate Reid Buchanan, a senior who finished 26th overall to also earn All-America status. Buchanan was with the lead pack for most of the race and he posted a time of 30:46.6.
For the men, the Pilots as a team were fourth at the 3000 meter split and eighth at 5000 meters before finishing strong. Portland combined for a team score of 175 to finish in the top three.
Colorado won its second straight national title with a score of 65, while Stanford was second with 98 points.
