Join Outdoor Pursuits and Garaventa Center for a Walk In The Park: Hoyt Arboretum (Feb. 22)

UP staff, faculty, and students are invited to join the Garaventa Center and Outdoor Pursuits for a walk in Washington Park’s Hoyt Arboretum! This hike will explore themes in ReadUP’s visiting author, Cheryl Strayed’s book, Wild, as we hike around the arboretum and enjoy some of the wonderful nature that Portland has to offer. Outdoor Pursuits: Wilderness Emergency Training Courses (Feb. 1-2; Mar. 1-5)

Outdoor Pursuits Wilderness Emergency Training Course (Sept. 28-29)

The Outdoor Pursuits Program will host a wilderness first aid and first responder training course on September 28-29. This course will give you the medical skills, technical skills, and decision-making skills to respond to an incident in the backcountry. Kiya Riverman, Environmental Science, was awarded a grant for $489,935.00 on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense, for her research “Impacts of spatial-temporal precipitation, snowpack properties, and snowmelt variability on alpine landscapes and runoff.” February 15, 2025.

Christina Astorga, Theology, served as a Member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Moral Theology. February 26 – July 7, 2019. Astorga also served as the Head of the Local Arrangement Committee for the Catholic Theological Society of America. June 13, 2024 – June 15, 2025

Mohammad Arbabian, Business, published “Optimal Inventory Management Policies When Supply Is Bundled.” 9th North American Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, Washington D.C.
